Sustainability festival inspires on the power of learning from the environment

On October 10, the annual Day of Sustainability in Education will take place. Since 2008, this day is dedicated to inspiration of good examples, exchange of experiences and networking between beginners and frontrunners. Therefore Eco-Schools Netherlands and Leren voor Morgen organize together on this day the Sustainability Festival. This will take place at the Groene Ruijter in Bussum. Together they will organize a program where students, teachers, school leaders and other educational professionals will find inspiration and tools around the theme 'Inside out learning: learning from the environment'!

Theme: Learning from the environment

The Sustainability Festival focuses on "Learning Inside Out. Whatever your role within the school, there is something for everyone to learn and experience, whether you have been participating in the SustainaBul VO and/or Eco-Schools for years, are working on a specific sustainability theme or are still in the exploratory phase.

For example, a workshop for students is scheduled on how to use a reportage to make the impact of your sustainable activities visible. You can also learn about how, as a teacher, you can ensure sustainability in all aspects of the school through a workshop by Teachers for Climate. In the sustainable speed dates, you will learn about each other's questions and experiences and give each other a helping hand. The program also considers the theme: the workshops will largely take place outdoors. Finally, the SustainaBul VO will be awarded to the school that has best embedded sustainable development in their education this year!

The Green Ruijter offers a learning environment full of biodiversity

The Sustainability Festival will take place at the GRRU (Groene Ruijter). This location full of biodiversity in and around an old school building in Bussum fits wonderfully with the theme of going outside more during lessons and with students.

In fact, the GRRU is the inspiration and education location for biodiversity in the Gooi region. Here people work hard to restore nature & increase biodiversity, creating valuable work at the same time.

This combination of sustainability and its social aspects fits well with the Eco-Schools program, where this link is also made as much as possible, and with SustainaBul VO, where there is also explicit room for both green and social sustainability. At the Sustainability Festival, this location full of biodiversity, gardens and a wadi will provide plenty of talking points.

Eco-Schools: a global movement for sustainable education

Eco-Schools is the world's largest school sustainability program. Within Eco-Schools, schools work with students to think and act sustainably. Students are invited to take action and experience what contribution they can make to a sustainable society. In doing so, they discover their own values, interests and talents.

Every year Eco-Schools organizes a day where the 150 participating schools meet, exchange knowledge and gain inspiration and concrete tools through speakers and workshops.

Learning for Tomorrow: sustainability in the school's DNA

Cooperative Learning for Tomorrow consists of a group of 170 cooperating organizations. The overarching goal is to embed sustainability in the DNA of education, using an integrated approach: The Whole School Approach (WSA).

Every year, Learning for Tomorrow organizes the SustainaBul VO. This questionnaire, based on the WSA,helps schools gain insight into how they are shaping sustainability at their school. Each year, participants come together to learn from each other and sustainable steps are celebrated.
