A sustainable society begins with changing our economic system. During this course, perpetual economic growth will be questioned and current alternative thinking frameworks such as the Donut Economy, the concept of the commons and circularity will be explored and explained.
This course is taught by Socrates Schouten and Esther Somers, organized by Wageningen Pre-University. Socrates Schouten is a researcher and writer specializing in the circular economy. He has written the book: 'The Circular Economy - why production, consumption and growth must fundamentally change' and has worked at several civil society organizations such as Recycling Network.
In 2013, Esther founded the Goudzwaard School of Fair and Green Economics which is committed to sustainable economics education. From the Goudzwaard School, she and 20 economics professors initiated Rethinking Economics NL in 2014, a call for renewing economics education. She also teaches philosophy 1 day a week to students at Da Vinci College in Dordrecht.
