From November 20 to 24, the Week of Economics Education will take place - the national week for future-proof economics education in the Netherlands for vo, mbo, hbo and wo. The substantive program of the Week of Economics Education is developed for and by education professionals and offers inspiration on how to create space within the economics subject for different economic thinking.
Economic science is evolving. In order to stay connected to the field and a society in which sustainability and inclusion play an ever-increasing role, there is a need in the classroom for discussion and a broader perspective. There is a need to enrich education, to get students thinking.
Teachers plant the first seeds from which a student's view of the subject sprouts. It is important that those seeds be diverse and paint a complete picture. With a broad range of scientific perspectives, students can weigh for themselves all the values in society. Because in addition to the value of wealth and money, there are other values. The value of well-being, for example, of people and the environment.
Although many education professionals are working hard to enrich their lessons, not everyone finds room for this within the existing frameworks of curriculum and time. Economics Education Week provides a platform where education professionals can discuss with each other the development of economics, and how it can find a place in the classroom.
