In education, we often struggle with how best to motivate and challenge students to learn about sustainable development. Playing games centered on sustainability proves to be a creative and good way. Games stimulate your (creative) thinking and problem-solving abilities and promote connection and cooperation with others.
Currently, several organizations are developing sustainable development games that are interesting to use in education.
On February 10, Learning for Tomorrow and Teachers for Climate organize together with ROC Nijmegen a sustainable games night with sustainable development games, where you can get acquainted with these games by playing them yourself. This way you can experience which game you think fits best with your students.
During this games night you can play different games in 3 rounds. Below you will find the program and more information about the games that can be played. Sign up and indicate which games you would like to try. A maximum of 60 participants can join the game night. Full is full. Registration is possible until Feb. 3 at the latest.

Pension Plan Game (sustainable economy)
With the Pension Plan Game, you experience how money guides your behavior and that of others. The goal of the game is to collect points for a pension. You get those points by collecting 4 equal cards for which you trade with other participants in buying and selling cards. In the first half we play the game with our Sustainable Money System, in the second half we play the exact same game with our current system of loans, debt and interest. After the game we will discuss the experiences and uncover the science behind them.
More infoImpact Empire (on hidden costs)

Participants become aware of the environmental impact of their consumption behavior and learn how to make more conscious and sustainable choices. They analyze and compare the impact of everyday products on the consumption of water, energy and natural resources and develop and formulate sustainable alternatives for these products, taking into account their environmental impact.

Core Values Game®
Many young people are insecure and searching for themselves. On their way to adulthood, it is essential for them to have different experiences so that they find answers to the questions "Who am I, what can I do and what do I want?" Most young people do not find it easy to talk about this. Connection at home and at school is an important condition for sharing with each other what moves you and is important in life. The game helps young people develop, especially in these difficult times with political tensions, war and climate problems.
More infoSwitch City (working together, looking ahead, investing and planning)
Five teams manage different neighborhoods of Switch City. These include an old downtown and a new construction district, as well as greenhouses, agriculture and an industrial area. Each team has its own needs and goals, but there is also a common goal to make the entire city sustainable while still providing enough energy for everyone. After each round, the teams are measured against the CO2 yardstick to see if the sustainability goals are met. The game releases a lot of energy and almost always leads to heated debates and a lot of fun!
