From October 9 to 13, the Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week (DSFW) takes place with a great educational program supported by members of Coöperatie Leren voor Morgen. Teachers in vmbo and practical education who 'want to do something' with sustainable fashion at school are cordially invited to join the online meeting on September 19. There you can ask all your questions in the run-up to the DSFW!
What comes to mind when you think of sustainable fashion? Swapping (swapping), repairing and pimping clothes? Any incentives that entice your students to buy more? Or perhaps exploring the story behind new garments?
A €2.50 t-shirt that seems too good to be true, doesn't it? And it is: the real price is paid by others elsewhere. Kiki Boreel told about that on Vroege Vogels radio, you can read it here listen back.
As a top model, Kiki did photo shoots for well-known brands. But she put off her blinders, in her own words: "Once you've seen it, you can't avoid it. Now she is actively committed to making the fashion industry more sustainable.
Pretty fashion pictures entice to buy, but are usually mostly misleading. In real life, the quality of cheap clothing is poor, the makers are not paid enough to live on, the environmental damage caused by the fashion industry is great. Did you know that making 1 cotton t-shirt requires 7,000 liters of water?
In the run-up to Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week, on September 19, we will discuss the questions facing teachers who want to get started with more sustainable clothing choices with their vmbo and pro students. Welcome!
