Vegetable gardening at school: how do you do it?

By sowing, tending and harvesting fruits and vegetables themselves, children develop a playful involvement with food and nature. In the vegetable garden, pupils help each other and learn about biodiversity, natural cycles and the influence of weather and climate, among other things. The effects on well-being have been widely studied: pupils are outside and in motion, and vegetable gardening appeals to their attention and patience.
The week of May 22 to 26 is The Week of the School Garden. With this, the Alliance School Gardens and Young Learning to Eat put the spotlight on the many school gardens in the Netherlands, under the motto "Sow Together, Grow Together.
At this teacher community meeting, we will discuss the school garden in more detail. How does the school garden work and how do you organize it, who can help? And most importantly, how to make the school garden an integral part of the school and lessons. The garden is the school!
The introduction of this meeting will be given by Arjan Klopstra (Alliantie School Gardens). After that we exchange - as in every meeting - plenty of teaching ideas with each other. Using the Whole School Approach we will show how you as a school can give the school garden a structural place in your education.

About the teacher community PO for Tomorrow
Do you think it is important to pay attention to nature, the environment and social sustainability in your lessons? And do you have the desire to share lesson ideas and inspiration with fellow teachers from other schools? Then join the PO for Tomorrow community.
We organize an online meeting every 2 months. In between, we sometimes organize on-site activities. The themes are chosen by the teachers themselves, by mutual agreement.
